What a weekend! This was not the typical Memorial Day weekend for our family this year, filled with friends, family, grilling out and relaxing by the pool. This Memorial Day weekend was filled up to our ears (literally!) with dirt. Dirt, dirt and more dirt. In fact, I am still cleaning the dirt from shoes, dog paws, toys, etc everyday! We have had a playset sitting in our garage for a few years now, just waiting to be setup. We weren't sure if we wanted to move and set it up at a new house, or stay here but with the way houses are selling right now, I think we have decided to stay put for a while. I feel like we will know when its the right time, and I just don't think that time is now. Soooo...we used 90% of this weekend hauling dirt down our steep backyard to fill in a retaining wall so that we have a flat spot for the playset! I will do a full post on that once the project is complete...hopefully that is just a week or two away but I can't guarantee that!
The remaining 10% of the weekend was spent sleeping, golfing (for Lance - who truly deserved the break!) and having fun at Stone Mountain! Since we were busy busy busy for most of the weekend, we wanted to have some family time to just have fun together, so we decided to head to Stone Mountain. You only have to go twice to make a pass worth the money, so we decided to get annual passes. I am so excited because they always have fall and winter events and I always feel like I'm looking for festive things to do that time of year, so it should be a lot of fun! I just wish it didn't take an hour to drive there! We got there just as the park was opening and we wanted to ride the train but the first train ride wasn't until 11:20, so we decided to play miniature golf first. It was right next to the train station so it was perfect. Let me just say, I think Lance and the granddaddies will be very excited to know that we may have a budding pro golfer on our hands! Harrison LOVED it...and didn't want to leave!
We played for about 45 minutes and it was great because there were only 2 other families on the course, so we could skip around to the different holes in any order we (meaning Harrison) wanted. When it was time to head to the train, Harrison was so upset and throughout the entire train ride, kept telling us that he was so worried that he wasn't going to get to play any more putt putt.
Here comes the train!
I love the train ride - a nice break from walking around! What's really funny is that Lance's parents told me that they used to have an Indian invasion on the train. There is this part where you come up to an old looking village and they said they would run out and pretend to take over the train. I can't tell you how glad I am that they don't do that anymore, I think the kids would freak out!
After the train ride, we ate lunch. Harrison kept saying that he wanted to play putt putt so Davis and I finished eating while Lance and Harrison went back for some more fun. Apparently it was very crowded by that point so Harrison got really frustrated. He still tells me every day, at least 5 times, that he wants to go back to Stone Mountain to play golf! We ended up meeting at the 4D movie, Yogi Bear, which was cute, but Davis was not a fan so I had to take him out half way through.
It was getting really close to nap time by that point, so we got in the car to drive to the playground for a few minutes, but we drove all over and couldn't figure out where it was. We are definitely rookies - that park is so big, it is hard to get a grasp of where everything is! Hopefully by the end of the summer, we will know how to get around! The kids fell asleep within 5 minutes of getting in the car, so we just headed out to go home to finish our dirt project. It was a fun morning and hopefully we will get back soon!
